Littlest cousin oldest cousin...

What greater thing is there for human souls than to feel that they are joined for life - to be with each other in silent unspeakable memories. ~George Eliot

Sunday we got together at my Mother-in-laws for yummy Steak fingers with the J Larmours. I cannot believe I forgot my camera!!!
The cousins all love playing with eachother even though their ages range from 3 to 14 years. Jaxton is obviously too young to play yet, but it wont be long. He did spend some time with Ethan and thats my image for the day. The oldest and youngest grandkids on the Larmour side,

America's Top Model

Today was the Portrait posing and lighting workshop. Tricia and I had such a good time. We started out in Mark's studio above Need To Speed for some informative slides and instruction, then took to the streets behind The Lorenz to photograph the models. We found some really cool places to shoot and got some good ideas, then headed back to the studio for some practice with the lighting set-up. Check out my photostream at http://www.flickr.com/photos/32808363@N08/ on FLickr for all my shots of the day.

Hanging with my Boo....

Today I got off early so we got all the chores and errands done before Triston got out of school. Once home, Triston and I settled in on the couch with 5 or 6 episodes of "I Shouldn't be alive" on the DVR.... Now I can hear the backlash now from the people who would balk at the thought of allowing and condoning over 5 hrs of TV being consumed in one sitting, but it was just one of those lazy days that begged for a snuggle on the couch kind of activity with not much brain function needed...
The thing about that show is its actually educational as well, so if Triston and I ever get caught in a snow storm, stranded in the desert, lost in a rain forest, surrounded by sharks in the middle of the ocean, or fall down a ravine and get wedged between some rocks, we will know what to do.... There's my justification :)

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe....

About two weeks ago my truck started missing when taking off from a stop or accelerating uphill. Steve has been testing and trying all kinds of things to try and figure out whats wrong with it. Even as far as taking it to Crown where 3 or 4 tech's had a look at it with no conclusion. We are going to have to take it to Shasta Nissan for a diagnosis. In the meantime I am borrowing my dad's Explorer. The kids love it, it has heated seats, rear vents and all kinds of cool stuff that my truck doesn't have. I love my truck, its very reliable and has been a good vehicle with nothing major going wrong in the 7+ years we have had it. Hoping this isn't anything big either, we will see...

Frog legs anyone?

So Triston has this really cool habitat that's made for a variety of creatures. We've housed tadpoles, tiny pond fish and most recently a frog. The kids say its a tree frog, but I picture them as smooth skinned tiny frogs, and this looks more like a miniature toad. About 2 weeks ago I noticed that the food drop door was off and laying next to the habitat. Upon further inspection, I realized we had a Houdini frog on our hands, as he had managed to climb up and out of the small opening at the top of the lid and slink off into the night. We assumed after several days of not finding him, that he perhaps became a little snack for one of the dogs. Triston feared for several nights that the frog would appear inside his pajama pant leg or hop onto his pillow while he slept, because the habitat was located directly over his bed.

Well, this morning we found this note along with a tub containing one very confused looking creature...

I have no idea what would possess the silly frog to leave his space we set up for him, it had all the amenities of "home" complete with pond, rocks, Lilly pads, plants (albeit they are all plastic) and he got live crickets handed to him on a silver platter every week... Maybe he was just trying to see if the grass really is greener on the other side... Now that he is back home, maybe he will appreciate all we do for him, just a little more :)

Tranquil moments....

Now that the babyroom is back in full swing with 4 infants and just myself to tend to all their needs and desires I am happy to say there are no longer any boring moments. Naptime is just a silly thing dreams are made of, mealtime is a crazy, messy "I'm the HUNGRIEST feed me first" verbal boxing match between all the little mouths that want fed. :) The days go by quicker, I have a larger audience for my puppet shows and Karaoke practicing (sorry Erin, I have to practice with songs like wheels on the bus, and Twinkle Twinkle little star) there's more dishes, but more hugs, more crying, but also more giggles, but getting back into the hang of it all is tough so I treated myself to a little quiet moment on my lunch break with a JavaChip Frap, my book " The last Lecture" and a little sunshine that decided to grace us with its presence today....
ahhhh, what a nice day

Finding some quiet time in your life, I think, is hugely important

First new client of the year :)

Today marked the first booking of the year for wedding photography. I met with a very nice couple at starbucks today to discuss their wedding photography needs and desires. They had seen my website and looked over the packages I offer and seemed pretty excited about what I can offer them. After going over my portfolio and discussing my packages, photoshop skills, years of experience, equipment used, back-up plans in case of illness and booking requirements( yes, they HAD read the section on "what to ask potential photographers) they took a copy of my contract said they would be in contact... The bride-to-be left me an email letting me know they wished to book me for their wedding, (yay!) so todays photo is of me, excited about my first booking of the year!

Tip #3 on the project365 website states "And dont forget to take a photo of yourself at least once a month, so you can see how you've changed, too"

Football AND a birthday? What a great day!

Today was the final day of playoffs for the Superbowl and Ethan's team- The Colts were playing the Jets. Last night the J Larmour's were over and my Nephew Jett (who is almost 4) was challenging Ethan on who would win the game. When Ethan stated that the Colts would win, Jett- trying to be a fair guy thinks for a minute and says.... "They BOTH will win".... Too cute!
Well, the Colts pulled it off and will be playing the Saints in a few weeks. But for today, the first part of the day was all about football...

Until 530, then the day was all about Emily's birthday, which we celebrated a day early with her at Chevy's. So once again, I am breaking the rules and posting two Photos of the day....My blog, My rules... :)

Today, we celebrate you!!!!!

It's fun to stay at the YMCA....

Saturday's right now mean Basketball for us. Triston is on a team at the YMCA and Steve is the coach. Triston seems to enjoy basketball more than football, maybe due in part to basketball not having "The Shasta Drill" (makes me cringe just typing that out, lol)

I played basketball in High School, its definatly my favorite game to play even though I've never been any good at it. In HS I just wanted to be on the team, I knew I wasnt any good, but it was just fun being a part of it all. I never liked softball- too much pressure... being out there on that plate swinging away all by yourself... NO THANK YOU!!! Im glad my kids enjoy sports, because I love watching them play. Its one of my favorite things to do.

The best thing about Friday is......

Well, it used to be Dutch Bros Fridays when I would pick Triston up from school, but Steve introduced Triston to chocolate dipped ice cream cones at Weinerschnitzel and voila, its now Weinerschnitzel Friday...

Weinerschnitzel was actually my first job when I was 16. I remember I used to make myself chili cheese dogs with mustard, kraut & onions on them. SOOOOOO good! I also used to order their chocolate chip cookies, but I ordered them frozen- not cooked. They were stored in the freezer- and we just baked several dozen each day, but I preferred them frozen. This was before the whole Salmonella issue was brought to light...

Gimme my money back!!! :)

Tax time! I actually enjoy tax season, so as soon as all the necessary papers make their way thru our mailbox, I actually get a little excited settling into the computer chair, papers spread all around me, TurboTax coming to life on the desktop... I like tasks, and organization, so entering information and seeing the "your Refund" numbers glowing green and getting higher by the minute is quite rewarding. Problem with this year, is just as I was finishing up, entering the last of the business deductions that I had forgotten about, I went to log out and it nicely asked me if I wanted to save my return... OF COURSE I want to save my return, I just spent the better part of two evenings collecting and entering all the information.... I click YES.... I swear I clicked yes...... I just know I did...... TurboTax apparently thought I clicked no, because it closed and guess what.... poof.... bye bye.... almost half of all that I had entered was gone.... I hadn't saved it since just a little way into the process. How frustrating!!! I should never have let TurboTax know that I somewhat enjoy this type of thing... what a cruel joke.... They really need to have an auto-save feature on there, that saves every few minutes.... just like this very cutting edge blogging website I am using now :) I see the little "draft saved" words flash every so often as I am typing away at the keyboard... THAT'S what I want to see on TurboTax for next year as "New and Improved"

Time after Time....

Time, it governs so much in our lives.... Time to get up, time to go to work, time to go shopping, time to make dinner, to do homework, take a bath and finally, time to go to bed.... Wake up and repeat..... So often my days seem like this- going thru the endless uneventful motions...

Today was about Time. Late to work-missed that time by a mere 6 minutes, time to say welcome back to Ameriona who has been absent for a month, Time for Garrett to get used to sharing me again, time to say good-bye to a co-worker and friend, time to fill up my gas guzzler AGAIN, time to do the taxes already, time to analyze the pro's and con's of being bumped up a tax bracket, time to think about Blogging again because its been 4 days since my last entry, and lastly... to spend some time on the phone with a good friend, as she shares her stories, and I share mine...

They say time flies and they (whoever "they"really are) aren't joking... If one thing comes out of this blogging for me, I hope that it reminds me that time comes and goes and its the moments we remember.... remember the moments.....

Steve found a recipe in Men's Health magazine that sounded good and looked reasonably easy to prepare. I love Chicken and am always looking for new ways to fix it. I'm also a big fan of Sauces so this looked like a hit! Plus its breaded and fried and as unhealthy ( an humorous that a fried meal was featured in Men's HEALTH) as fried food is, there is just SOMETHING about it....!!!

Crispy Parmesan Chicken
2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, 6 oz each
1 cup bread crumbs
2 Tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 Tbsp dried Italian seasoning
2 egg whites
Salt and pepper
1/2 Tbsp olive or canola oil
1 1/2 Tbsp butter
2 Tbsp capers
1/2 Tbsp Dijon mustard
Juice of one lemon
2 Tbsp fresh parsley, roughly chopped

1. Cover the chicken with parchment paper or plastic wrap, and use a meat mallet or a heavy-bottomed pan to pound it until it's 1/4" thick.

2. Combine the crumbs, Parmesan, and Italian seasoning in a wide bowl. In a second bowl, beat the egg whites slightly. Season the chicken with salt and pepper. Now carefully dip each breast into the egg whites and then into the crumb mixture, pressing to make sure it's evenly coated.

3. Heat the oil on medium in a large stainless-steel sauté pan or cast-iron skillet. Add the breasts, and cook them for 3 to 4 minutes or until the crusts are deeply browned and crunchy. Turn them over and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes. Then transfer them to a platter to rest.

4. While the pan is still hot, add the butter. When it's lightly browned—which should take no longer than 1 minute—stir in the capers, mustard, and lemon juice, using a wooden spoon to scrape up any browned bits. Turn off the heat and add the parsley. This is your sauce.

5. Serve the chicken breasts with the sauce drizzled on top, and a side of spinach sautéed with garlic and dried chilies. Makes 2 servings.

If cats could talk, they wouldn't.

Not a lot happened today, but when I was trying to figure out what to photograph and blog about, my cat Stormy looked at me with his huge green eyes and begged to be the subject of my attention. This cat is a very lucky feline, as he was on his last life but was spared an imminent demise by a few water-works on Triston's part and Steve's lack of motivation to get dressed quick enough before his anger subsided into compassion, giving Stormy just "one more chance"... Lucky Kitty!!!

Pigskin haven

Somehow over the course of several years our household has been transformed into a pigskin haven, football watching, touchdown cheering, BAD CALL ref shouting bunch. It all started when after 2 years of begging we finally allowed Ethan to join what at the time was the Redding Colts. Soon after, the NFL namesake Indy Colts became a favorite. The Pop-Warner team has since become the Shasta Jr Wolves, but the Colts fan club stuck. Now as Superbowl approaches and they are doing so well, today's pic could be none other than the fans enjoying the Sunday games... Ethan was at camp on Sat when the Colts were playing, but he recorded it and even though he already knew the final outcome, he watched the game when he got home. What a dedicated fan!

Fish-on!

Today after Tristons basketball game we headed to the mall where the FLW Series National Guard tournament was doing the final weigh-ins. The Guard has a mobile event team that sets up all kinds of activities for the kids to enjoy. Tristons favorite thing was the mechanical surfboard. He must have rode that thing 10 times!

He also liked the football toss, imagine that!

And he's off.... leaving "Boo & me" time

Today after School, Ethan left for Winter camp with the church youth group. They are going to Mountain Meadows, which is where I attended summer camp almost every year of my childhood. So many fun memories there. I never went to a winter camp, but this is Ethans 3rd year going. They always do so many fun things in the snow. The cabins have heaters now, which they didnt have when I used to go, so thats probably why they never had winter camps when I was a kid.
Here is Ethan getting ready to leave with his 3 best amigo's

With Brother gone Triston gets a little lonely. This night especially because all the neighbor kids were busy as well. So it gave him and I some time to practice his basketball skills for his game the next morning.
I know im cheating too Robyn, putting more than one image a day on here, but some days are just too hard to pick just one.. and other days its hard to just GET ONE!!!

My little apprentice

Garrett and I have fun in the babyroom, and one day when I brought my camera, he was very intrigued with it and wanted to use it. Being that he is only 16 months, I decided against that, but found the little Fisher-Price camera that appears to be from about the 1970's era that we have in the babyroom.

At first he didn't get the connection, that what I held and what he held were essentially the same thing ;) He put it on his head

Then I told him to put it on his eye, he merely tried to point to his eye, thinking I was asking him where his eye was. Too cute!

Then he made the connection between our two toys and it was no stopping him. I even got him to say some resemblance of "cheese" while holding it up and snapping his "photos". Someday he may just be a world renowned photographer and I can say "I taught him all that he knows" HAHA :)

A little sunshine after the rain

Today the sun came out, so on my lunch I went to the sundial to take some pictures. I didnt get anything spectacular, but it was nice to get out after the rain, I like how all the colors look so vibrant after it rains. Its like the rain washes everything clean, even the sky, so it all looks bright and new.

Jan 12th- Oh foggy day

Walking through puddles is my favorite metaphor for life. ~Jessi Lane Adams

Sometimes the fog is cool. It actually makes for some really neat photos sometimes. Its been foggy here for quite a few days, and today it brought some rain with it.... This morning it was pretty nasty weather driving to work... so what does any photographer do when they are driving in bad weather and trying to take a photo every day that signifies that day? They grab their camera with one hand, remove the lens cap with the other hand, while stearing with their knee, they select focus on some oncoming headlights in the rain and start firing away... Today has two shots, because one is what I wanted, then the other one the focus caught the lights and they bursted into colorful circles and I loved the effect although you cannot even tell what it is... I do love the rain, I dont particularily like being out in it. I probably should focus on driving rather than photography when im the driver of the vehicle huh?

Jan 11th- Homework anyone???

Homework for the most part is not usually a huge issue, but some days prove challenging and seem to have no end in sight. I think maybe Triston was still recovering from his football/wii/trampoline/pizza/no-sleep-sleepover party come Monday homework time, because what normally takes him about 45 minutes, took him well over 2 hours. here is a photo of him in absolute anguish over having to write his spelling words in cursive now, something I think most 3rd grade boys probably dread. Why is it again that we need to learn cursive? Other than my signature, I really cannot remember the last time i've written anything down in cursive... I know, I know, its something everyone should learn how to do... I just wish schools taught organization, study habits and time management. Things we actually NEED to know how to do when we get older...

Jan 10th- Deb's new toy!

My good friend and neighbor has the same camera as I do, and for Christmas she just bought herself a new 50mm f1.8 prime lens! Let the good times begin! She will have so much fun with that lens. It takes a while to learn all the stuff you can do with it, but she will have fun discovering it all. Especially those low light wrestling and football pics!
The way this lens can capture images without using flash, and the way it can throw the background completely out of focus is awesome! Its a must-have lens for anyone with a DSLR :)
If your blessed with good wealth, might I suggest the f1.4 instead!!!

Saturday Jan 9th- its a Steeler's world

Triston wanted to have a Steeler's party, so I made a Steeler's cake (to the best of my ability) and decorated the house in yellow, black, blue & red. He got 3 footballs as gifts. It was supposed to be a Wii party, but the kids hardly played at all. The trampoline was a hit as well as freeze tag in the unlit park behind out house. As I look around at whats left of the teltale signs of a party- blankets and pillows scattered about, Toy guns, plates holding the remains of pizza crusts, Sticky orange substance on numerous items- Im glad birthdays only happen once a year... They all had fun, so it was worth it... Good thing I like to clean! :)

Why is a birthday cake the only food you can blow on and spit on and everybody rushes to get a piece?

Friday Jan 8th- Making improvements

"Continual improvement is an unending journey"

Finally the bathroom is put back together. What a mess that was. Today's picture's include a before picture (below) of when it was all torn apart. I wish I had a photo of what it looked like before the renovation, but I cant find one... Now when I look at it, I think the rest of the house needs renovated too, to match! One thing leads to another I guess...

Thursday Jan 7th- lost in a book...

Naptime during the day in the babyroom is a very quiet time, one that tempts me often to fall asleep along with the little angels in my care... I have started a new book that Erin lent me to occupy the time.

“Reading is sometimes an ingenious device for avoiding thought.”

"Chapter One"

"I am Ninety. Or ninety-three. One or the other. When you are five, you know your age down to the month. Even in your twenties you know how old you are. I'm twenty three, you say, or maybe twenty seven. But then in your thirties, something strange starts to happen. It's a mere hiccup at first, an instant of hesitation. How old are you? Oh i'm- you start confidently, but then you stop. You were going to say thirty-three, but your not. You're thirty-five. And then you're bothered, because you wonder if this is the beginning of the end. It is, or course, but it's decades before you admit it.
You start to forget words: they're on the tip of your tongue, but instead of eventually dislodging, they stay there. You go upstairs to fetch something and by the time you get there, you cant remember what it was you were after. You call your child by the names of all your other children and finally the dog before you get to his. Sometimes you forget what day it is. And finally you forget the year.
Actually, it's not so much that i've forgotten. It's more like i've stopped keeping track. We're past the millennium, that much I know - such a fuss and bother over nothing, all those young folks clucking with worry and buying canned food because somebody was too lazy to leave a space for four digits instead of two- but that could have been last month or three years ago. And besides, what does it really matter? What's the difference between three weeks or three years or even three decades of mushy peas, tapioca, and depends undergarments?
I am Ninety. Or Ninety-three. One or the other."

Wednesday Jan 6th- BendaWhoooo's???

Today was the day after the birthday presents arrived, and since they were artsy presents, Triston and I spent the evening making clay and bendaroos animals. As we were finishing, Triston told me that a good idea for my picture of the day, would be a photo of our creations. What could I do but agree :)

Tuesday Jan 5th- Birthday fever!

Today my little man turned 9 years old. I cannot convince myself that it has really been 9 years since he was born. You really have no idea how very fast time flies until you have kids and see them grow up right before your eyes as you try to grasp and cherish each moment before it fades away...
I cannot believe that I forgot my camera on the way out the door to take him to dinner for his Birthday! Hence the quality of my photo for today which was taken (embarasingly) on my cell phone. Oh well, at least I had that!

Making the decision to have a child - it's momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking outside your body.

Jan 3rd - Worthless pennies? No way!

My friend Erin introduced me to the practice of picking up pennies that have been dropped or carelessly tossed aside as being worthless. I've tried thru the years to make a point to pick them up whenever I see them with no real reason as to why, just because she does I guess, not really for luck or any other reason...

Then one day I got an email with one of those stories that get passed around and it was about picking up pennies... It was rather long, but I decided to read it anyways. Im glad I did! Now I have a reason for picking up pennies! The story below my photo for today is the Penny Story that I received that day. Take the time to read it, it may change your view on Pennies :)

It isn't what you have, or who you are, or where you are, or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy, its what you think about it"

A Penny & the Truth

Several years ago, a friend of mine and her husband were invited to spend the weekend at the husband's employer's home. My friend, Arlene, was nervous about the weekend. The boss was very wealthy, with a fine home on the waterway, and cars costing more than her house. The first day and evening went well, and Arlene was delighted to have this rare glimpse into how the very wealthy live. The husband's employer was quite generous as a host, and took them to the finest restaurants. Arlene knew she would never have the opportunity to indulge in this kind of extravagance again, so was enjoying herself immensely. As the three of them were about to enter an exclusive restaurant that evening, the boss was walking slightly ahead of Arlene and her husband. He stopped suddenly, looking down on the pavement for a long, silent moment. Arlene wondered if she was supposed to pass him. There was nothing on the ground except a single darkened penny that someone had dropped, and a few cigarette butts Still silent, the man reached down and picked up the penny. He held it up and smiled, then put it in his pocket as if he had found a great treasure. How absurd! What need did this man have for a single penny?
Why would he even take the time to stop and pick it up?Throughout dinner, the entire scene nagged at her. Finally, she could stand it no longer. She casually mentioned that her daughter once had a coin collection, and asked if the penny he had found had been of some value. A smile crept across the man's face as he reached into his pocket for the penny and held it out for her to see. She had seen many pennies before! What was the point of this?"Look at it," he said. "Read what it says." She read the words 'United States of America ' "No, not that; read further .
"One cent?" "No, keep reading.""In God We Trust?" "Yes!" "And?""And if I trust in God, the name of God is holy, even on a coin. Whenever I find a coin I see that inscription. It is written on every single United States coin, but we never seem to notice it!
God drops a message right in front of me telling me to trust Him? Who am I to pass it by? When I see a coin, I pray, I stop to see if my trust IS in God at that moment. I pick the coin up as a response to God; that I do trust in Him. For a short time, at least, I cherish it as if it were gold. I think it is God's way of starting a conversation with me. Lucky for me, God is patient and pennies are plentiful!"
When I was out shopping today, I found a penny on the sidewalk. I stopped and picked it up, and realized that I had been worrying and fretting in my mind about things I cannot change. I read the words, "In God We Trust," and had to laugh. Yes, God, I get the message!

Jan 2nd. Making some changes.

After an unexpected bathroom remodel due to a broken pipe, I decided to change everything about that room. We had to get a new vanity, countertop & linoleum so why not paint the walls and get new decor as well...
Some things that I already had, just needed to be repainted to match the new colors of the room. That is where my picture for today came from. Just a towel holder that I had that was dark green and the new colors are brown and seafoam green, so it needed to be repainted. I cant wait to see how the room will all look when everything is done. Right now its just a mad mess around here with piles of junk, supplies and parts of the bathroom all over the place. I had so many things I wanted to get done over the long weekend, but i guess that wasnt in the plans. Oh well, there's always next weekend, its just not as long.....

Jan 1st To a New year!

So my good friend Robyn reminded me of a really cool idea that I had read about in a photo magazine a while back. Its called Project 365. (http://photojojo.com/content/tutorials/project-365-take-a-photo-a-day/) Its where you take a photo every day for a year that either tries to capture the day’s events in a single photo, shows off a photographic experiment, a photo of someone new you meet, Something you ate for the first time or maybe something you just learned how to do, or just something that made you smile.

It sounds fun. I know it will be hard at times as some days are just BLAH with nothing even photoworthy, but thats where my creativity will be challenged, which is always a good thing.

Im excited to get started, and its a good thing I had already taken a photo on Jan 1st as Robyn suggested this on the 2nd and its something I want to challenge myself to do for this entire year.

I'm determined to go thru with this and hopefully I remember to TAKE a photo each day (those who know me, know I struggle with memory issues unless its written down!) Hopefully I will have the time every few days to post my pictures and blog about them. This time of year while my Photography business is slower it should be easy, but I know certain times of the year will prove to be a bit more challenging.

To start off the new year I took an image of a few of my favorite comfort items. Warm fuzzy boots, candles and hot Coffee. Dim the lights, pick up a good magazine & get lost in it for a few hours... My idea of a perfect day... Especially if its raining outside!!!
